@Jess & Adam - I can easily see the argument about being too connected to information. It's similar to information overload, which is yet another symptom I blame on the 'net. There's a huge difference between needing to know information and simply having access to it. We've gotten to a point where we're told we NEED to know far too many things that are trivial and pointless.

@tom - I've wondered about the TV problem as well. I even pondered about it here on Shyzer last year. First radio with my grandparents, then TV with my parents, then video games and computers with my generation. It's a tough conundrum, because while I don't believe any of these are the end-all to civilization as some people might see them, there's no arguing that each of them changed the way we live profoundly.

Often I think about my grandparents who saw the advent of TV. It must have been a huge deal. I wonder if they thought it would replace social interaction, I guess it didn't. HDTV is great, but what good is it if nothing good is on? Funny of all the millions of websites in the world, I only visit a couple of dozen or so regularly. I guess everything seeks it's own level.

I saw that same interview and I was actually interested in picking up the book, so if I do, I'll let you know how it is.

And I fully agree with you. The problem too is that there is sooooo much that you can find online and because we're so used to it, we do it all and dn't think about it. Heck, I do everything from my cell phone too! We're so connected that we don't think about it too much. And the problem with that is that we take it for granted all of this information.

I'm scatterbrained because I'm smelling the food in my kitchen, but I'll be addressing this soon on my page as a response to your post here, I imagine... I've been toying with the idea myself...

P.S., it's my birthday! And I can thank the internet for most of my birthday wishes, because if it weren't for Facebook's birthday reminders, there's probably a lot of people that would have forgotten me. But, now that my accounts are flooded, it's probably a good thing.

Everything you said, I agree. I can't count the number of times Tommy and I have been bitterly feuding about the spelling of something, what time something starts or just any random fact, like the percentage of obese Americans. This is what the internet IS good for! I'm just thankful that while some of my friends have made our only connections online, whether it be because of distance (or them just never picking up my phonecalls), most of my friends still despise facebook, myspace, and still show up at my apartment uninvited every day. I do hate how it's almost become forceful when trying to get together those friends that DO rely on the internet for every part of their life. And let's not get me started on my Dad's choice of wife, found on Match.com with a horribly misinformed 'about me'. Not to mention people that have tried to get to know me via internet, and once I realized they were complete freaks and have tried to disconnect all forms of conversation, still manage to stalk me. These are the surprises the internet sticks you with.
