Anybody know any good home remedies?

Growing up, my siblings and I used to wait and perfect games before lending a permanent name it. One such game we eventually came up with was a variation of tag, which we dubbed Manhunt. I’ll add it to the list of homemade games later on today, but basically it’s a little bit of tag, capture the flag, and jail-break…in the dark.

Last Friday, Clay had a few friends spending the night and Jules was down the road playing with some of her mates. I knew the question was going to be proposed sooner or later and sure enough, around 2200, Clay came up to me with the brilliant idea of playing Manhunt. I mulled it over for a minute, called Jules, and told Clay I was game.

The only time during the night I was hiding alone was during the first round. In all the subsequent rounds, I had Jules with me wherever I hid. Well, logically, since I am covered in poison ivy rashes and blisters and neither she, nor Clay, nor any other of the hooligans we played with that night have old socks with holes cut into them to make gloves on their arms, it’s safe to say that my hiding spot during that first round was right in the bed of my favorite plant.

According to WebMD (I know, huge mistake. There’s nothing worse than trying to diagnose yourself via a search engine. I once had a little bump on my arm and after spending an hour on WebMD, I’d convinced myself I either had Lyme Disease or Hepatitis. Turned out it was only a mosquito bite.), the rashes and blisters last for 10-25 days. This = Not Good. I’m supposed to be somewhere in 8 days. I’m supposed to be somewhere else in 14 days. My first rash cropped up four days ago and they’re still coming in. Within the past few hours, my neck has finally succumbed to the evil bastards and I’m literally watching it spread on my chest from no blisters this morning to seven right now. I can’t wait to see how many I have when I wake up. But seriously, what the hell am I supposed to do in 8 days? I can’t go outside the house looking like this!

Luckily, it’s not made its way down to…you know…and I’m praying that it doesn’t. They say you can only get it from actual contact with the oil from the plant, but I find that to be utter bullshit. I can guarantee you I didn’t take my shirt or sweatshirt off while playing Manhunt and yet it’s all over my chest now. How do you answer that WebMD? Although, to be fair, it’s extremely bad in the spots where my shirts didn’t cover me (hands, wrists, neck, face, waist, possibly scalp)…let’s just hope the three layers I had covering Private Goob were protective enough or I’ll go absolutely nuts here, no pun intended.

First lice now this, it’s like you’re living in a third world country up there.

    Lice??? LOL!!!

    Poison Ivy??? Double LMAO!!

Seriously, tho. Try bathing in the patchouli soap and rub the After Midnight body butter on it…it helped a guy at the Atlanta show. Just don’t stick your infected paws in the jar and spread it even more.

And btw, that stuff can spread from the “smoke” of burning vines….I’ve seen it happen! Glad I’m immune.

I’m not sure of any natural-type remedies other than an oatmeal bath and calamine lotion. You can also try warm epsom salt baths. There’s some product called “Ivy Dry” that people swear by - but I’ve never seen it in a drugstore, that I can recall.. but then, I’ve never had to look for it.

Just make sure you wash EVERYTHING you came into contact with after the poison ivy. You can still pick it up from a door knob or steering wheel if the urushiol oil got on it.

Best of luck to you AND Private Goob.

OH. I just remembered.. there’s Burt’s Bees Poison Ivy Soap - if you can get someone to drop by a Bath & Body Works store - they’ll probably have it in the Burt’s Bees section.

Or it could just be an irritation. I spent 2 days trying to figure out why it looked like I had a golf ball in my arm, when I finally realized it was a spider bite. I had all of the symptoms, and I traced my steps back to where I had been bitten. Don’t sweat it =P

    Ryno,
The butter and soap is on the way with your mom tonight.

Good luck buddy…don’t let anyone else use the jar or bar!!

Seriously, if it is as bad as it sounds, you may need to go to the doctor. As I said in an earlier post I had poison Ivy and had to be on steriods. Take of of yourself!!

Fellner, for the record, I never had lice! My brother, however, yeah….

Sax, I checked and you’re right, even the damn smoke can spread this stuff. Which is good to know, because I want to burn it oh so badly. Thank you, and Cathy, for sending that stuff up with mom!

Ally, guess whose mom is swinging by Bath & Body Works tomorrow! Thanks for the tips. And I’ve done so much laundry lately, it’s not even funny. All the bed sheets and clothes I’ve touched in the past week have been washed and I took a bottle of lysol around and sprayed practically the entire house.

Shereena, trust me, this ain’t no spider bite. And the fucking thing is still spreading! The blisters are all over the back of my neck now.

And Renee, see, I hate doctors and I hate medicine. I don’t mind putting ointment or creme or something on a wound or rash. But I hate getting perscriptions because I always tell myself if I can contract something common, my body should be able to fend it off. But you know, if this just keeps getting worse by say, Monday, I think I’ll take your advice and go get some steriods.

Just in time for some playoff baseball. :)

Yeah, Goob, I know a friend that had his spread.. down there. Dont think it cant happen, I heard its a real doozie when it happens too. Just watch out

Yeah you’re boned. When I got poison ivy I had that shit for a month!

seriously, do the oatmeal bath thingie, it worked for me when i was little, it should do the trick.

by the way, lucky man! look how much helpful advice people are doling out…and your mom gets to take care of you? i’m so jealous
